| Biographical Sketch I was raised in Alberta and after graduating from the Engineering Physics program at the University of Alberta began a 34 year career in defence research during which I completed Electrical Engineering Masters and Doctorate degrees within the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research Laboratory of Electronics. My major interests were Information Theory, Statistical Communications and Digital Signal Processing which I applied to problems in the underwater acoustic detection and surveillance of submarines while assigned to the Naval Research Establishment in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I later directed the maritime R&D program in the National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and participated in a one year program of strategic studies at the National Defence College in Kingston. I later took up the position of Director General at the Defence Research Establishment Suffield (now known as Defence Research and Development Canada/Suffield) responsible for programs in Military Engineering and Chemical and Biological Defence. |
