Part 1. Filling Your Skilled Worker Vacancy From Foreign Sources

Alberta Economic Development, recognizing the need of Alberta firms for specific skilled workers, included skilled worker recruitment as part of a mission to Germany and England in 2003.  Tina Varughese Drebit, Mission Leader, will discuss the successes of the 2003 program and the plans for 2004.  They will also explain the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) which provides a relatively fast hiring and entry to Canada of employer selected candidates.

Part 2. Creating a More Skilled Workforce From Within

As firms innovate by exploiting new technology, develop new products or seize new markets, the skills and knowledge of their workforce requires continuous upgrading.  Firms can develop their innovation capacity by building upon the technical knowledge and experience of the existing workforce through continuous updating in a modern manufacturing process technology and management

Braum Barber of Lethbridge Community College's Manufacturing Process Technology Program and Val Leronowich, Manager of Medicine Hat College's  Continuing Education Department will  provide updates on programs currently available or under consideration to assist firms with the development of a more skilled work force.  They will seek feedback discussion on content and delivery mechanisms best suited to local community needs.
