Managing Intellectual Property
as a Business Asset
Beverley Sheridan - President, Technology Now This presentation is intended for entrepreneurs and investors of technology or knowledge based businesses. The distinct competitive advantage of such enterprises usually depends on a unique collection of ideas, knowledge, experimental data, designs, software and practical "know-how". This intellectual property or IP needs to be identified, codified, protected and otherwise managed as a critical company asset. Beverley Sheridan will give an overview of how to identify these critical IP assets and how to best manage them consistent with the nature of the technology and and their value in attracting investors and partners, generating license revenue and supporting the venture's growth through further development of products and services. Through her company, Technology Now (www.technow.ca), Beverly Sheridan offers a wide range of management consulting and training services to the science and technology entrepreneur community. Before founding her company three years ago, she was the President of the University of Calgary's University Technology International Inc.(UTI) - a pioneer organization in the commercialization of research technology. Her accomplishments were recognized in 2001 by the Calgary YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Science, Technology and the Environment. |
